Athor Temple No.19 was established in 1923 and is one of 143 Temples in the United States and Canada. Daughters of the Nile (DON), was established in Seattle, Washington in 1913, so Athor is among the earliest Temples within the organization. In 1928, Athor Temple was honored to have one of it's members, Helen Cramer, elected as National Supreme Queen. Over the years, Buffalo Daughters of the Nile have met in numerous locations in Western New York. Currently, Athor Temple meets at the Buffalo Shrine Center, on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 1:00 p.m., for the months of September through May. Daughters of the Nile's prime function is to raise funds and provide items for the children at the Shriners Hospitals for Children. There are 22 Shriners hospitals - 19 orthopedic and 3 burn treatment. The Athor Elves along with any member that wishes to join them, travel to the Erie Shriners Hospital to deliver stockings (Christmas) and baskets (Easter), filled with small toys, coloring books, crayons, etc. for the children.
Buffalo's Daughters of the Nile hold numerous functions annually to raise funds including a White Rose Luncheon and basket raffle, dinners, meat raffle, items to sell, trips and share the wealth opportunities.
Daughters of the Nile membership is open to women who are related by birth or marriage to a Shriner, Master Mason, Daughter of the Nile or a Majority member in good standing in a Masonic related organization for girls.

July Greetings: By the time you are reading this, Queen Patti and many of the ladies will have returned from the Supreme Session of the Supreme Temple, Daughters of the Nile, held in Portland, Oregon. Those in attendance had a wonderful time rene wing friendships, making new friends and keeping current with the work of the Supreme Temple. We will look forward to our Queen’s report in September.
Queen Patti has shared her hope that ever yone will attend the Official visit and Special Ceremonial that Athor Temple will host on Thursday, August 2, 2012, at the Ismailia Shrine Center. It will be our opportunity to welcome our newly elected Supreme Queen to western New York and share with her the work of our temple. The Ceremonial will begin at 2:00 pm, and will be followed by a reception, entertainment and dinner in honor of our Supreme Queen and her guests. More details will be available soon, so make sure you check your newsletter. Let’s make our Supreme Queen’s visit a very special one.
Now that Supreme Session is past, work on our Athor Temple cookbook has begun in earnest. If you still have a recipe or two that you’d like to share, be sure to send them to Queen Patti. Ladies interested in assisting with the compilation of the cookbook should contact her. We are looking forward to adding this cookbook to our shelves!
Plans are under way for Queen Patti and several of our ladies to attend Northeast Days in Bangor, Maine in September, from September 27-30. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet ladies from other temples in our part of the country and also to learn about the many ways that Daughters of the Nile support the work of the Shrine Hospitals! Princess recorder, Vi Liddell will be glad to send you information about Northeast Days. It may be an event that you won’t want to miss.
Summer is a time when we slow down our busy schedules and take advantage of opportunities for rest and relaxation. It is a time when we enjoy warm sunshine and the beauty of our surroundings. Queen Patti reminds us to take advantage of this time, use it wisely and make plans to join us when you can for a warm Nile smile and fun!
